Guns, Product Review, You Can Carry

Here’s a video recap of the 2015 SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range, followed by a few other product highlights. Check out SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range Part 1 if you haven’t already.

Here are some of the products we were able to get our hands on:

CMMG MK47 Mutant

IMG_0789The CMMG MK47 Mutant is a formidable hybrid between the AR15 and AK47 platforms. It looks a lot like an AR15, but with the magazine inserted it has a distinct AK47 feel as well. It uses the AK47 round (7.62x39mm) so it’s a great option for someone who likes the .300 caliber round with the feel of an AR15. The “secret sauce” for successfully combining the two platforms is the bolt carrier group. Rather than taking the AR15 bolt carrier group, they take it from an AR10 which uses a larger .308 round, and modified it so it can handle the extra pressure of the AK47 round over the AR15 5.56x45mm round. This gives it increased reliability that uses the 7.62x39mm round. MSRP Starting at $1,499.

SilencerCo Salvo 12

IMG_0809Released earlier this year, the Salvo 12 is the first commercially-viable shotgun suppressor. It works with nearly all 12 gauge shotguns including semi-autos and inertia driven, and pump actions. It also features a modular design so sections of the suppressor can be removed to modify the weight, balance, and length with the sound suppression. It also can be attached to shotguns with choke mounts in improved cylinder, modified, improved modified, and full. MSRP is $1,400.

Standard Manufacturing DP-12 Double Barrel Pump Action Shotgun

IMG_0861 IMG_0855The Standard Manufacturing DP-12 is a double barrel pump action shotgun that is currently being exclusively distributed by Cheaper than Dirt.  It holds 7 shells in each tube plus one in each chamber for a total of 16. With a single trigger operating both barrels you pull the trigger twice and then pump the action before you fire the next two rounds. It did take a little getting used to but not much. It was fun to shoot but I have some concerns with using it for home-defense as the controls are not standard and can easily be mixed up or missed in a tense situation. MSRP is $1,395 and should be available on Cheaper than Dirt in the near future.

SOG Instict, Instinct Mini, and Bladelight Mini

2015-01-19 12.41.26-12015-01-19 12.41.52 SOG had a few new knives on display: the SOG Instinct and Instinct Mini concealed carry and self-defense knives as well as the Bladelight Mini that is a great EDC knife as it has a light built into the knife.  The Instinct Mini retails between $32 and $39, the Instinct retails for and $39 and $45, and the Bladelight Mini retails between $64 and $77.
