A wasted vote?

So I didn’t vote for Barack Obama or John McCain. I voted for someone who I felt better represented my views–Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party. I’m a registered Republican but only because I wanted to vote in the primaries and the Republican Party makes you register for their party to do that–however, my heart is more closely aligned with the Libertarian Party. I believe in less government control and more individual freedoms and rights. So instead of voting for the “lesser of two evils” I voted for someone I knew had no chance of winning.

Was my vote a wasted vote? Maybe it was a vote that didn’t matter, but I don’t think it was a wasted vote.  From another presidential candidate’s web site, Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party, who also had little to no chance of winning, comes the quote from John Quincy Adams: “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

So maybe my vote didn’t matter–but at least I can be sure that I voted for someone who I feel would have acted in a way more consistent with how I believe the Federal Government should be run.
